Which Visa Do You Actually Need
Most non-EU applicants need either a student visa (if you already have an unconditional university admission) or a student applicant visa (if you're still applying and need to be in Germany for entrance exams or in-person application steps). EU/EEA citizens generally don't need a visa but still need to register their residence.
Required Documents
- Valid passport, typically with at least a year of remaining validity.
- University admission letter (or proof of application, for the applicant visa).
- Proof of financial resources — usually a blocked account confirmation.
- Proof of health insurance coverage from the day you arrive.
- Academic certificates and, where applicable, APS certification.
